Yes, you need a ticket to enter the Pantheon. Since 2023 entry has been paid: it costs €7 (€2 reduced). Under-18s, Rome residents and visitors on the first Sunday of the month still enter free; entry is also free during mass, for those attending worship (source: cultura.gov.it).

Who has to buy a ticket

The full ticket (€7) is paid by anyone aged 25 or over who does not fall into a free category. EU citizens aged 18 to 25 pay the reduced fare of €2 on showing ID.

Who gets in free

Entry is free for several categories listed by the official site:

  • Under-18s (with ID).
  • Residents of the city of Rome.
  • The first Sunday of every month, for everyone.
  • Licensed tour guides in the exercise of their profession.

During religious services, access is also free for those attending worship — but this is not a sightseeing visit: you enter quietly and movement is limited.

Beware of the first Sunday

The first Sunday of the month is free, but it is also the busiest day: no booking and very long queues in the square. If you travel on those days, line up early in the morning or consider another day with a timed ticket.

How to book your entry

Tickets are bought online on the official Musei Italiani portal, via the app, or at the on-site ticket desks. A booking assigns a time slot: arriving within the stated time, you enter without buying on the spot.

In high season (spring and summer) and over long weekends demand is high. Booking a slot online, including through an authorised partner, is the safest way not to be turned away and to cut the wait. See how it works on the skip the line page.

What if I only want to enter the church?

For prayer during mass, entry is free and separate from the tourist flow. Outside service times, those entering for religious reasons during normal opening fall under the general access rules.

For detailed fares, see the ticket prices page.
